Charitable Giving

If you itemize, you receive a tax deduction of up to half of your Adjusted Gross Income for gifts to qualifying 503(c) charities. Any unused gifts are carried forward to future tax years.

Gifts may be made via cash or appreciated securities. The donor’s tax deduction is on the Fair Market Value of the asset on the date of the gift. The organization pays no tax on the sale proceeds.

Consider using a site like Charity Navigator to evaluate your favorite charities.

Gifts to non-503(c) causes are not tax-deductible.
