Identity Theft occurs when someone steals your personal information and uses it illegally. Commonly stealing your credit card information or opening up a new credit card in your name to make fraudulent purchases.
 
Personal information includes User IDs, Passwords, Name, Address, Date of Birth, Social Security and account numbers. 
 

Other forms of Identity Theft:

  • Tax-related:  your Social Security is used to steal your refund or get a job.
  • Medical Identity Theft:  your information is used to get medical care—this treatment becomes part of your medical records which could compromise your care in the future.
  • Child Identity Theft:  your child’s information is used to open bank accounts, utility accounts, credit cards, etc.
  • Criminal Identity Theft your information is falsely provided to an officer as part of a criminal investigation or arrest.
